5 Essential Skills That Escape Games Can Improve

Escapades - Chicago Escape Rooms & Rage Rooms

Escape games are fast becoming the way to spend your free time and are a great alternative to the traditional forms of entertainment such as a trip to the movies or a visit to the bowling alley. However, what you may not realise is that there are some hidden benefits in spending 60 minutes trying make a bid to escape.

We have identified these benefits and have chosen five skills that will be put to the test during your escape game experience

Exercising the mind

The pressure of the escape game experience challenges participants in many ways that they are not used to. To be successful in escaping players will need to step outside of their comfort zone and think outside of the box to tackle the various challenges. Escape rooms also require skills that have lapsed as they may have not been used in a while such as solving a math problem you haven’t had to do since high school.

Competitiveness

The pressure of the escape game experience challenges participants in many ways that they are not used to. Escape rooms also require skills that have lapsed as they may have not been used in a while such as solving a math problem you haven’t had to do since high school.

Concentration

Most escape games, including those here at Escapades, are designed in a linear fashion. What we mean by this is that the team cannot make progress towards their escape until they have solved each of the puzzles in a certain order. This means the participants need to give their undivided attention and full concentration into each puzzle despite their complexity. It is also important that they concentrate on a single puzzle at a time until it is solved to enhance the chances of solving all the required puzzles in time.

Creative Thinking

You shouldn’t always take everything you see in an escape game at face value. Objects can have alternative purposes to which they were designed for and a telephone number scribbled on a notepad is not necessarily a telephone number. There may also be cryptic riddles and clues to be solved to progress your bid for escape. All of these things require some creative thinking and forgetting about your usual boundaries. Anything is possible within an escape game!

Spatial Awareness

When you enter into an escape game your senses will be overloaded and you are conscious of the fact anything and everything could help you to escape. Your levels of spatial awareness will be heightened as you intensely search the room for objects and clues. You will also need to remember where you have found every object and clue as you might not necessarily need them when you find them. Above all else remember that everything that has been put into the room has been put there for a reason!
